The Love/Hate Dance

So as a designer, I begin to love something and obsess over it. Then after a year or so, "it" infiltrates the market and everyone loves it too. A few months later, I hate "it" and move on to my next "it" that I love! ha!

Here's what I'm hatin'...

Parson Chairs
I used to love these and wanted them in my house, now they are everywhere, please give me a curve on a chair!

Restoration Hardware

Now don't get me wrong, I still love furniture that looks worn and old. Although it would not work in my house, I like it in small doses. What I don't like is when someone tries to put a room together that looks like an ad for Restoration Hardware...shown above :)

B-O-R-I-N-G-!!!

Granite.. call me crazy but I have never really loved this stuff. I wish it would go away and I hate that it is the "buyer's standard" in home sales. Let's gang up on the world and create a new standard!!

No interesting color or pattern!
All neutral rooms... I admit I was obsessed with this look about a year ago as we were building our house. But I think after a few hard economical years, I just love color and pattern and want to come home to something not boring or super casual. Why shouldn't your home be bright and inviting?

Skinny lamps. I used to love em', now I feel that they just look cheap. Probably just my imagination though.

What are you loving right now in design?

What I'm lovin'...

I love everything about this--the ikat fabric, the bright purple, the small, chrome tray table, minimal accessories, and pink peonies!

Ikat walls, yummy~

Interesting lines on sofas. (This is a Bobby McApline for Lee Industries)

HUGE upholstered headboards,
extra plus if they are in a velvet!

Still loving glass tile, but it has to be interesting! I also love glass lamps, this one is from Tracy Glover!

Art Deco is my ultimate favorite design style, right now.

I can never resist a wow factor in something unexpected!

What are you lovin' and hatin' these days?

The Reveal....

Ladies and Gentlemen,
After Greg and my Dad spent two days putting up trim and base boards and Greg and I spent every night this week working our behinds off, we finally have this:

TA DA!!! I am so super pumped! We wanted to use the room SO bad, that we blew up an air mattress and watched a movie in our newly finished bonus room! Yes, we are dorks but it was soo much fun!

This was a long project that Greg and I decided to do on our own. Not only did it makes us grow stronger in our communication skills (lifting large pieces of drywall will make you learn to talk to each other, ha!) It was all-in-all fun. The best part is knowing that we did the work ourselves and that with hard work and a little luck, we can do anything! Sorry to get sappy on you guys, I'm just so stinkin' excited about the room!

We decided not to have the builder finish out the bonus room- this is what it looked like May 2010.

Then we drywalled a couple of weeks before we moved in- June 2010
(Other rooms still had not been finished)
In all our glory nastiness.
.

We had someone tape/mud and finish the walls and then we painted. If you ever paint fresh drywall, just know that it takes A TON of paint and the primer smells.

I didn't get any pictures of Greg and Daddy working--but this was the finished product before the carpet went down!

Lola needed an appearance on the blog.

Greg wanted in too!

Now all we need to do is...
-fan
-chandelier
-art (we have some great Auburn newspaper clippings and a really cool picture of Greg's car) that should go up soon!
-draperies
-FURNITURE

Then, finito, DONE!

No Peeking!

Well, maybe just a little sneak peek!

Here's Longwood...almost finished. Just accessories and art left to tackle!!

These pictures are at night, so all the colors aren't showing through. Can't wait to add the art and give it a few pops of color throughout the room!

This is what it looked like about 4 months ago

What do ya think?

Exciting Happenings at the Casa

I am so excited to show you everything going on this weekend at the house!

Several months back, I went shopping in Dothan, AL with my mom. There is this great store where I got some of the best deals on furniture! The best part is that this store supports and gives jobs to those who are mentally or physically disabled. This is such a great concept--so many neat finds at this store that helps those in need- who doesn't want to shop there!

So here's what we got...

Although it's more traditional than I normally go for, I really like this bed and plan to modernize it with some great bedding! (plus for $200, who could pass up a queen size bed?)

  And this cocktail table....

(This isn't the exact cocktail table that we
bought, but you get the idea!)

My parents are coming up for the weekend and are bringing these goodies with them! I can't wait to get them in the house! The bed has to wait to be revealed until the bonus room is finished and we can move the tv and desk out of the front bedroom and into the bonus room. But...

Next in line this weekend is putting up trim and base moulding in the bonus room.
While Mama and I are off to market in Atlanta, Daddy and Greg are going to be hard at work with the moulding!

Trim Color:
White Chocolate from Benjamin Moore

Sometime next week the carpet will be installed in the bonus room. This is the carpet we have selected!

Next comes a fan and light. I have picked them out, now it is just to order them!
We had to get a "hugger" fan because of the low ceilings and Greg being so tall. This isn't my favorite fan, but it's got the look we are going for in the room.

There are a few more goodies being picked up this weekend- you will just have to come back next week and see the "results" pictures!

Design To-Do's 2011

Most people make resolutions every New Years, I don't. Last year, I decided to make a "to-do" list for my year. It was of goals that I wanted to make and of things that I always said I wanted to do, but never did. Out of the ten things on the list, I accomplished eight. Not to bad compared to how I usually fail miserably with the resolutions!

So I have created a DESIGN To-Do list for 2011. Let's see what I can get accomplished this year!!

1. Get Published (a carry-over from 2010).
hehe

Now that I have a few projects under my belt, I want to get my projects professionally photographed. I plan to send these out to many magazines and hope one, or two, bite.

2. Finish our Bonus Room. All we need to do is...

-Carpet (hopefully getting installed this week!)
-Trim- Base moulding and window trim. (we decided to not put crown moulding because of  all the angles in the room)
-Fan/Small Chandelier
Tracy Glover Light

-Rug
-Drapery (I plan to put my new sewing machine to good use this year!)
-FURNITURE--this is going to be our football game room/man cave so BIG, durable furniture is a must!

3. Put this...

and here.
Old Picture!!

4. Wallpaper the Powder Bath. Now to just decide on ONE paper, geez

5. Make Roman Shades for our bathroom. Possibly with this fabric...
Duralee Fabric.

6. ART. I love my home, but our walls are so bare. I hope to get a few great pieces of art this year and start bringing this house to life!

7. Furniture. Another department that my house is lacking in. Hopefully we can upgrade some of our furniture and introduce a few new pieces into our home this year.

8. Work on the screened-in porch. We love entertaining outside and eating outside, so this area needs some sprucing up--and a dining table might be nice too!

9. Get our backyard functional! Hopefully lay sod and maybe a little landscaping too!

10.Make an upholstered headboard for our master bedroom. I want to make it fit a king, although we have a queen right now--hopefully a new mattress is in store for this year too!

Wow. After putting this all on paper, it slightly stresses me out, but hey, I got 356 days left to do it all!
