"Elegant, Tailored, Understated"

In my last post, I described one of the four color schemes for 2011. Check it out if you missed it...

The next color scheme is described by Sherwin Williams as "elegant, tailored, refined". The design concept for this personality is a rebellion from manufacturers and wants American-made trade- hand made items. They love natural fabrics, classic lines, and organic colors.

Atelier entails everything this style is about.

It is pure and raw with a sense of refined glitz and glamour.

Velvets, silks, and linens fit perfectly in the design.

Furniture that is warn and custom looking are just what this design style is all about.

Colors for the Adventurous Ones

 A week or two ago, I attended a webinar about the upcoming paint colors for 2011. There were four color schemes that they discussed that I would like to show you.

Today, I begin with the Adventurous Travelers.

The American Melting Pot

America used to be considered the "melting pot" of cultures and ethnicity.

Today, that is no longer the case. People are proud of their heritage and want to show off who they are as a person. They want to be unique and their family's history helps make them stand out in a crowd.













 A few years ago Moroccan designs became very strong in the design world, but now there is also a presence of South African tribal designs.

Moroccan designs with bright,bold colors and strong prints.

Moroccan lanterns were very popular.

Houndstooth and Paisleys have been around for a few seasons, but are being used everywhere these days!

Houndstooth was original to Scottland while Paisleys originated from India.

Paisley Stained Glass Windows, just stunning!

Bright, saturated colors of strong, bold patterns. Not afraid to layer patterns!

Animal skins are another popular pattern for this style of design.

Tron's Set

To Celebrate my husband's one year anniversary at his job, yes I am this silly, I took him to see the movie Tron. I knew nothing about this movie, so I did not have great expectations of it. The movie was good, but just not my style. What did catch my eye was the set design.

Here are some pictures of Tron's Midcentury design in the main character's, played by Jeff Bridges, home.

Now, I'm loving the Barcelona chairs and the Eames chair with the Arco lamp, but the super traditional "carved" pieces just did not seem to fit in to me. Yes, they have been updated by being made out of acrylic, but they just don't seem to work. I honestly don't know what happens in some of the scenes because I just sat there trying to figure out how the furniture plays into the story.

Here's a link to a story that has some explaination. Basically, the character is recreating his home in Tron with familiar shapes and furniture from his childhood, only with Tron's materials. (If you don't understand this, don't worry. Two hours before writing this, I didn't either, ha!)

Fun Fact: The director went to architecture school and had a big say in the set design. I think it shows!
